The README had grown into a second copy of GUIDE.md, and the duplicated half
had gone stale while the guide stayed correct. It is now a front page: what
Haven is, how to start it, what you get, and a link to the guide for the rest.
Everything cut has been moved into GUIDE.md rather than dropped, including the
Tailscale walkthrough, slash commands, keyboard shortcuts, admin and moderation,
backups, GIF setup, translations, the full configuration table, and running
more than one server.
Corrections along the way:
- The Android app is Haven, not Amni-Haven. It was renamed to stop the confusion.
- Haven Desktop is no longer labelled beta, and the site's download card said
1.4.15 while the buttons above it already linked 1.4.28.
- The licence badge claimed MIT-NC. Haven is AGPL-3.0, which the comparison
table and the licence section both already said.
- The port forwarding section claimed Haven has no rate limiting. It has had
it for a long time, 20 attempts per 15 minutes per address, so the warning
was arguing people out of a protection they already have.
- The GIPHY signup walkthrough led nowhere, since GIPHY stopped issuing keys
to new servers. Tenor is the default and the steps now say so.
- File uploads are 25 MB by default and admin-configurable, not a flat 25 MB
and not the 1.5 GB the site claimed.
- No macOS build of the desktop app exists, so the FAQ no longer offers one.
The pages also missed a lot that has shipped: Ferry, single sign-on, the
in-app updater, backups, threads, bots and webhooks, push notifications,
stickers, personas, polls, guests, invite links, plugins, automod, the audit
log, and the fact that Haven Desktop can host a server by itself.
Discord import and the Ferry bridge are now presented together, since the
people who want one usually want the other.
Covers creating the Discord bot and the two intents it needs, pairing channels,
granting the permission, and sending. Also states the limits plainly: DMs are
one way, pings are off by default, Discord attachment links expire, and avatars
need PUBLIC_URL set to appear on the Discord side.
Steps now nest under each connection method (#### under ###) instead of
rendering as top-level sections, and fix a few typos in the section added
by #5452.
- .env.example: add STEAM_API_KEY entry with usage docs and link to Steam dev portal
- .gitignore: add docker-compose.override.yml (local per-deployment config)
- README.md: add STEAM_API_KEY to config table with descriptions
Rich presence shipped in 3.33.0 but was only ever mentioned in the
version history blurb, so nobody reading the README or the landing
page would know it exists.
- README: new Rich Presence row in the features table, plus a full
setup section covering all four sources and why Last.fm is the
recommended one
- Landing page: new Rich Presence feature card
- Note the GIF Favorites tab from 3.34.0, also undocumented
- Document PUBLIC_URL in the configuration table
Replaced all non-Android 'Amni-Haven' with 'Haven' throughout the README.
Only the Android app section retains Amni-Haven branding (Amnibro's project).
- Replaced custom MIT-NC license with GNU Affero General Public License v3
- Haven is now truly open source under an OSI-approved license
- AGPL copyleft ensures forks deployed as network services must release source
- Updated all license references across README, package.json, docs, website, and TOS
- Fixed bot/webhook pinned messages showing raw username instead of [BOT] prefix
- Two-way bot webhook callbacks with callback URL + HMAC signing (#194)
- Community server links (haven.moviethingy.xyz) in README, website hero, nav, and banner
- Channel code instructions with MutantRabbit credit
- Bump version to 2.9.4
- Add callback_url and callback_secret columns to webhooks table
- New fireWebhookCallbacks() fires POST to bot callback URLs on user messages
- HMAC-SHA256 payload signing via X-Haven-Signature header
- Bot detail panel now has Callback URL and Callback Secret fields
- All webhook CRUD handlers return callback fields
- Webhook messages skip callbacks to prevent loops
- Add community server (haven.moviethingy.xyz) to README, website hero,
nav bar, and dedicated banner section on docs + website pages
- Updated Android app popup from closed beta to full Google Play release
- Android banner/modal now links directly to Play Store listing
- v3 localStorage migration resets dismissals so existing users see the new popup
- Fixed Desktop app naming: 'Haven Desktop' (not 'Amni-Haven Desktop')
- Fixed 'Amni-Haven server' references to 'Haven server'
- Only the Android app carries the Amni branding (built by Amnibro)
- Updated donor lists: added c0urier (sponsor + donor) and deNully (donor)
- Updated docs/website version to 2.9.3 with version history entry
Added:
- Bulk emoji upload (up to 50 at once, auto-named from filenames) (#202)
- use_tts role permission — enabled by default, controls /tts access (#192)
- /tts:stop client-side command to halt TTS playback immediately
Fixed:
- Shippy/game popout no longer kills the iframe when popup is blocked
Changed:
- Android banner updated for Google Play launch (Amni-Haven!)
- Haven-App repo updated with Play Store listing
- Remove cscript/VBScript prompt handler that blocked Node event loop for up to 5 minutes; replace with native Electron dialog
- Focus mainWindow before showing sync dialogs so they can't hide behind the app
- Remove disable-renderer-backgrounding flag that starved the renderer event loop
- Replace infinite do...while shuffle loops with safe index calculation
- Guard clock and server bar intervals against accumulation on re-init
- Add collapsible right sidebar with toggle button and localStorage persistence
- Increase socket pingTimeout, add reconnection backoff, debounce visibility handler
Three root causes for the popup/banner never appearing:
1. localStorage poisoned by v1 flow — the old broken mailto submit and
banner X both wrote permanent localStorage keys. New code uses fresh
key names (haven_ab_*) and clears the old ones on first load.
2. Cache buster stale at ?v=2.1.0 — browsers served the old JS. Bumped
all script/CSS cache busters to ?v=2.6.0.
3. Session-only banner dismiss was using the right key but old permanent
key from v1 was already present, blocking the banner.
Also:
- Removed all 'View on GitHub' links for Haven-Android from website,
download section, and footer (closed beta has no public repo)
- Removed Haven-Android GitHub link from README roadmap table
- Updated Haven-App repo on GitHub: deprecated notice + beta signup info
- Android Beta banner: green pill button in the top bar opens a sign-up popup
where users enter their email to request closed beta access on Google Play.
Clicking 'Sign Up' opens a prefilled mailto: to amnibro7@gmail.com.
- Auto-popup for first-time visitors (queued behind the desktop promo).
- Website: new Android banner section + download card with email sign-up form.
- README: full Android beta section with feature highlights and sign-up link.
- Roadmap updated: Android App status changed from 'In Progress' to 'Closed Beta'.
- donors.json: added Amnibro to sponsors for building Haven Android from scratch.
- Bumped version to 2.6.0.
Added:
- Discord history import Direct Connect (paste token, pick server, select channels)
- Discord history import File upload (DiscordChatExporter JSON/ZIP)
- Tabbed import modal (Upload File | Connect to Discord)
- Full server structure import (text, announcement, forum, media, threads)
- Forum tag resolution and display
- Discord avatar preservation (webhook_avatar column)
- Channel type indicators in import picker
Fixed:
- E2E key loss on password change (re-wraps key with new password)
- Scroll-to-bottom loop when images load while scrolled up
- ARM64 Docker support (#34)
Changed:
- Website, README, GUIDE updated with Discord import docs
- Version bumped to 2.0.0
- Detects missing Node.js and prompts Y/N to install via winget
- Shows manual winget command as copy-paste option
- Falls back to nodejs.org link if winget fails
- Update README: Windows quick-start now shows 2-step flow
- Update version badge to 1.8.2
