Git for Windows 1.x is deprecated, no more updates will be available. The version check used so far 1) doesn't work and 2) would report the most current Git 2.x version anyway…
* makes changes to almost all main repo files to be in accordance with .editorconfig
* some files in "test\fixtures\..." were left alone to avoid breaking tests
* NOTE: whitespace changes *only* (`git diff -b` shows no changes)
